Directing

Sebastian is drawn to classical work that engages directly with the audience using striking images to bring larger than life situations and characters to the stage. He won the EVVY award competing against over 30 other Emerson directors with his directorial debut MACBETH. He is learning the craft and pursuing development opportunities. He spent the summer at Interlochen arts camp as the observing director of their production of Romeo and Juliet and an artistic assistant to the college audition intensive.

BlueMat Theatre

In independent productions affectionally titled ‘bluemat’ shows because of the blue rehearsal mats used to create a stage in a rehearsal room Sebastian co-directs and acts in vibrant adaptations of classic texts with his peers at Emerson. These shows explore the artistic merit of limitation as the actors and directors struggle to create against lack of time, lack of funds, and at times, challenging texts.

This production of the Shakespeares the Two Gentlemen of Verona put the often unsavory and omitted ending at the center of the narrative. The abuse and disenfranchisement of the women in the play formed the thematic backbone while the rest of the 6 person cast spun through the 20+ characters in a sixties beach themed romp that ended in calamity. Theo Zucconi Co-director and long time collaborator took home an EVVY award for best supporting actor for his performance as Lance and a myriad of others throughout the show.

This production of Much Ado aobut nothing drew on the young casts memories of attending weddings in the mid 2010’s setting the entirety of the play solidly in the preperation and aftermath of the climactic wedding of the show. Going so far as to start the show en medias res with the wedding and the revaltion of Hero’s apparent betrayal. Then traveling back to the beginning of the show to watch how we got there. Inspired by the principles of clown this show was filled with outrageous moments including plunger walking sticks, two henchman in a trench coat, and a dance party to party rockers in the house tonight. The show was nominated for a best directing EVVY and Sebastian won an EVVY for best print advertisement for the play.

Acting

Sebastian is fascinated by the forms of theatre that explore the connection between audience and performer. This exists in improv comedy, the form where Sebastian began his career. Classical Theatre, which he studied with the world renowned Shakespeare and Co. And new experimental and devised work which he creates with his peers at Emerson College.

Extensive improv training and a strong understanding of the fundamentals of storytelling make developing new work a specialty.
